Spotlight Story: Nikki Bigger
From the start of Schedule35 a little over a year ago, we've been incredibly fortunate to meet some truly amazing people and build a community with them. As microdosing is still such a new concept and one that faces a lot of stigma, we've decided to create a new series titled 'Spotlight Story', where we're able to showcase real people and their real experiences when it comes to microdosing and the benefits they've found in their lives.

To kick off the first edition, we're stoked to share the story and work of Nikki Bigger. Nikki is an incredibly talented photographer and videographer based out of Squamish, BC. She's been microdosing for over a year now and has had an incredible journey.

Without further ado, here's Nikki's story:

"From a very young age (8), I’ve dealt with depression and anxiety. I was bullied a lot and have always had issues with having a baseline of happy. I didn’t really know how to be happy, and comfortable in my own skin as I was always being poked at for who I was. As many years have gone by, alongside self growth, experimenting with many supplements, diets, location changes, lifestyle changes, one thing always stuck out to me. Slow down, relax, stay centered, and focus the energy within.

Although I’ve tried mushrooms in their full dose many times and have had great revelations and success, microdosing has been such an amazing, sustainable and stable way of managing my depression and anxiety. My baseline emotion of the day (before microdosing or while I was in a bad mental state), was “ugh, I have to do laundry, work, get groceries”, I always felt like everything was a challenge against me and that life was a never ending struggle. To describe how I feel since I have been microdosing (1.5 years) is ambitious and motivated. My baseline emotion is now “Let’s conquer this day, we have laundry, work and groceries - I can do it, let’s go!”. That feeling of having a pep in my step, ambitious and excited for life is such a transformative feeling.

My grand realization in life, is my mindset. If you perceive your life as a struggle, it is then a struggle because that is the lens you choose to view it with. If you perceive your life as an exciting adventure, it then becomes that. So within this realization, why then don’t we put 100% focus on making our minds and perception in alignment with our goals, the focus of our life? I think a lot of people don’t realize that the mind is the driver and that we are in control of our mind. Microdosing is a fantastic way of aiding the mind in viewing the world with a positive and balanced lens so that we can shift our mindset to achieve our goals, believe in ourselves and create the life we desire.

What I love the most about microdosing, is the ability to continue on with my daily life, unaffected physically or mentally. I rarely feel any symptoms that inhibit me from working or completing general tasks. The great thing is that I can double the dose to 200mg on days where I know I’m home all day relaxing to get an even better effect. Or, take the 500mg dose and take a day to focus within on whatever arises for me in that moment. I so deeply believe that our bodies are telling us so much, we just need to slow down so we can listen to what it has to say.

Taking control of my life in all aspects has been the most rewarding feeling. I could have trekked through life with a completely different perspective, being steered on a different path. The path I’m on now is balanced, positive and most of all happy. Eight year old me would be so proud that I believed there was a better way. There is always a way, we are never stuck, we just need to believe that we can change, and then we will."

What an inspiring way to launch this series. Nikki's story is such a powerful reminder of how changing perspective can change an entire life. Thank you for giving space to these voices and helping normalize the conversation around mental health and microdosing.

Love this. I also used to have that baseline "ugh" feeling about doing daily tasks. Now I am ready to conquer the day!

Really great story, she opened up about mental health issues and how something so counter intuitive like psilocybin could combat them. Amazing!
